This is what a real diner counter looks like
No hostess stand, no QR codes, no reservations. You walk in, you find a stool at the counter, and the food starts moving. Pete's Grille has been a staple on Greenmount Avenue since 1980 — more than forty years of regulars who order without looking at the menu.
Baltimore Fishbowl called it a "popular Waverly breakfast and lunch spot" — the regulars just call it Pete's.
A favorite of Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, who wrote about it in his 2005 autobiography — one wall of Pete's features photos and posters of its most famous customer. His standing order ran to two BLT sandwiches, a five-egg Western omelet, a bowl of grits, fried eggs with French toast, and three large chocolate chip pancakes.
